A letter I wrote to Jess
2005-07-18 - 7:29 p.m.

Blah, quite a bit of this weekend involved me waiting for loose plans to come together, and then getting multiple calls from multiple people telling me what they are going to do instead. That was fun. I really love when it spreads out in time too, so at the end of the day I realize it was wasted.

Most of this summer I've not done things I've wanted to because I'm so eager to hang out with friends (therefore doing what they want to do). Now I'm unMelanie and lacking the elements that get me living life. So screw it. I'm doing what I want to, and not procrastinating to the inevitable "not going to happen now." I may be a loser eating alone, watching movies alone, and hanging out alone in parks, but I'd rather have that than sitting by the phone alone.

And now, a letter I wrote to Jess a few days ago:

My sister gave birth to Kate a few days ago. Three
days after Slurpee Day (7/11). She's a cute pink
thing. Heavy for how tiny she is! The birth was a
breeze, and Ang looked great afterwards for the
billions of pictures random peeps were taking.

I tried whiskey for the first time yesterday. It
didn't sit with me well at all. Maybe I shouldn't
have used the "Pirate" shot glass (8 oz.). Too much
too quick. Bleh. I've always been afraid of whiskey,
so I'm glad I'm not now. It wasn't bad, just firey.

I went to the Harry Potter parties, but I still don't
have my book since I ordered it on Amazon. CURSE YOU
AMAZON! People are all reading it, and they might
slip spoilers. NOOOO! I'm terrified of someone
ruining the ending. Terrified!

Did I recommend to you Cat's Pajamas by Ray Bradbury
yet? It rocks. The stories are all good, but a few
of them are phenomenal and stick with you all day.
All week! The images from "A Careful Man Dies" still
gives me the creeps. Awesome. I love that man.

Pleh, I found out that two more of my friends are
getting married. That brings the count up to 8 people
I know personally getting married this summer. I'm
really happy for them (of course), but spread them
out! Maybe it's better all at once so I can get them
out of the way. The couple factor here is insane.
Erin and Nessa have SERIOUS boyfriends too!

I really am not complaining about being single; I have
no prob with that. It's just different slightly with
my friends because being single was one bond we talked
about a lot. Now I don't think anyone wants to bring
up their guys around me because they think it might
make me feel lonely. Dumb dumb dumb.

Sorry for venting, but I hate it when people censor
conversation subjects around me. I can tough it out,
unless it's about Dubya.

Well, I better actually work, ha!
Mel

ps - I checked out CD's from the library that will
teach me to talk with a Scottish, Australian, and
Ranch accent. Not all at once. Heehee.
